Talei Elu

Public Relations and Communications Officer

Talei is a proud Torres Strait Islander and Fijian woman from the remote community of Seisia in Cape York.

Talei joined the team in 2020 as our Public Relations and Communications Officer after working for the Federal Government to support a range of initiatives for remote Indigenous communities. Community engagement and getting people involved is her favourite aspect of the work. Talei brings her experience and passion for visual storytelling to her role.

Talei founded Faces of the Straits, a social media platform which showcases the beauty, diversity, and stories of Torres Strait Islanders.

Always thinking about capturing stories and showcasing culture, Talei is often seen with a camera or voice recorder in hand when she’s travelling back home to Torres Strait and Cape York. In her downtime Talei pursues her love of photography and surfing and will take any opportunity to be close to the ocean.

She has a fur baby named Oz who has been living a life of luxury since being rescued.
