Celebrating the remarkable life of Uncle Bob Maza

In partnership with Google, 33 Creative celebrated the achievements and impact of Uncle Bob Maza AM on 25 November 2025, with the release of his Google Doodle, marking what would have been his 86th Birthday. A Yidinji and Meriam Man, Uncle Bob’s influence and contributions span across a number of realms including theatre, activism and music. His impact and legacy continue to shape generations across Australia. We extend a heartfelt thank you to Uncle Bob’s daughter, Rachael Maza, who walked alongside us to ensure that the tribute accurately encapsulated Uncle Bob.

Google Doodles are the creative and delightful changes made to the Google logo. They celebrate a range of local and international topics ranging from holidays and anniversaries to trailblazing individuals who have impacted culture.

With the blessing of the Maza family, we approached Yuwi, Meriam and South Sea Islander artist, Dylan Mooney, to invite him to be the artist to mark this significant milestone. Similar to Uncle Bob’s creative practice, Dylan’s illustrative style is influenced by history, culture and family. Dylan shares “It was an honour to commemorate Uncle Bob Maza in this Google Doodle, He was a leader in Australian Theatre and an advocate for Indigenous Peoples. It is a privilege to remember him, his story, and the work he has done in the creative industry – to have that representation and ensure stories like his, remain alive.”
