We would like to invite you to a Roundtable consultation to talk about the best ways to protect Indigenous Knowledge. The consultations will be run by IP Australia, the Australian Government agency which administers the patents, trade marks, designs and plant breeder’s rights systems, and facilitated by Aboriginal policy advisory firm Inside Policy. IP Australia will be conducting Roundtables across Australia to engage primarily Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people on the issues and potential options to protect Indigenous Knowledge.

Indigenous Knowledge includes:

  • Indigenous products such as bush foods, medicine and craft products
  • Traditional Knowledge of plants and animals that may be used in new technologies
  • Culturally significant words and images that may be used in trade marks and designs
  • Indigenous Knowledge that may be used in research

Before attending a Roundtable, we encourage you to read the Consultation Paper which can be downloaded at:

The Roundtable will be independently facilitated by Inside Policy, and aims to encourage an open discussion on the issues, obtain feedback and options for ways forward to protect Indigenous Knowledge.

IP Australia hopes you can participate in your local Roundtable as your knowledge and views are important.
